Markham-Jones' half century in vain as Alvechurch & Hopwood beaten by the weather

Redditch Editorial 3rd Aug, 2018   0

A HALF-CENTURY from wicketkeeper Adam Markham-Jones proved in vain as the weather scuppered Alvechurch & Hopwood’s fixture against Eastnor in Division Three of the Worcestershire County League.

Alvechurch, who had been put into bat, reached 188-4 in 28 overs before play was abandoned.

After openers Matt Hayward and Nick Jones both fell for 12, Markham-Jones and Edd Rogers (43 not out) steadied the innings, before rain intervened with Alvechurch at 188-4.

Sam Beale finished with 3-64.

Alvechurch, who lie fifth in the table, are away to Bromsgrove 3rds at the Hedges Ground tomorrow.

The Seconds’ match away to Eastnor in 2nd XI Division Three was abandoned after the hosts had reached 114-5 after 25 overs. Simon Debenham took 3-31.

Rain also put paid to Alvechurch Thirds’ fixture at home to Welford-on-Avon in the Cotswold Hills League Fifth Division.

Alvechurch were 117-0 after 18 overs when play ended.

It was the same tale for the Fourths whose Seventh Division match away to Norton Lindsey & Wolverton 3rds, after the hosts had reached 186-5 in the 41st over.

The Thirds visit Alcester & Ragley 2nds tomorrow, with the Fourths entertaining Earlswood 5ths.
