REDDITCH United boss Liam McDonald has wasted little time in revamping his forward line with the additions of strikers Kyle Turner and Luke Shearer.
The duo, both aged 20, are players who excite McDonald, who says they are ideally suited to fitting into the style of play at the Valley Stadium and can help fill the void left by the departing Jermaine Hylton and Jamie Spencer who recently moved to Kidderminster Harriers.
Turner made his debut in the Reds’ 0-0 draw at Banbury United on New Year’s Day having made the switch from Midland Football League Division One outfit Pilkington XXX, whilst Shearer has arrived from Midland Football League Premier Division neighbours Alvechurch.
McDonald said: “I’ve got high hopes for both players, both of whom could have gone elsewhere for more money, but they’ve seen what the club has done for the likes of Jermaine Hylton, Omari Sterling-James and Jamie Spencer and I think that excites them.
“For Kyle in particular this is a big step up and he could take time to settle, but it’s fantastic he wanted to come here and I have got 100 per cent belief in his ability.
“He’s very much like Jamie Spencer in that he comes alive in the box and is a very good finisher and that is something which you can’t really teach.”
Shearer has impressed at Lye Meadow and McDonald said the attacker had taken little convincing to join after a chat on the phone.
“Luke has some real raw ability and is an ambitious player. The opportunity to come here was too good for him to turn down and we hope, with his awareness, speed and movement off the ball, that he will prove to be a really useful addition.
“He has similar attributes to Hylton and we can improve him in the way we have with others.”
