REDDITCH United have added former Alvechurch and Evesham United left-back Taylor Morrison to the ranks as they continue their preparations for the new Southern Premier Central season.
It has been an excellent past week for the Reds who defeated Hackney Wick 3-0 in a friendly at the Trico on Saturday before drawing 3-3 at Evesham United on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, former Arsenal, Birmingham City and Liverpool star Jermaine Pennant has been making the headlines following his decision to spend time training and playing with the Reds.
The midfielder starred in Saturday’s win and is continuing to spend time with Wayne Spicer’s squad as both he and the club consider the possibilities of both a playing and coaching role as well as helping with the club’s academy. A decision on any future role at the club for Pennant is expected in September.
There are no commitments whatsoever as yet from the 37-year-old but he is good friends with the Reds management and has recently moved back to the Birmingham area.
His enthusiasm has certainly rubbed off on the Reds squad, who in midweek were pegged back to a 3-3 draw at Evesham, who took an early lead with a penalty.
Alex Cameron fired an equaliser into the bottom corner before Kyle Perry’s brilliant 20-yard volley put the visitors ahead. New forward Dan Sweeney made it 3-1 in the second half but the Robins fought back to claim a draw.
On Saturday, stunning long range strikes fron Rico Taylor and Sweeney put the Reds in command before Adam Garmson completed the scoring late on.
The addition of Morrison is another excellent capture for the rejuvenated Reds and the 21-year-old brother of Leamington-bound Kyle said: “The new manager, coaching, new changing rooms, everything at the club is developing and seems to be improving.
“I’m keen to be at a club that will help develop me as a player and I really feel it is here. There’s a professional set-up behind the scenes with the analysis and other stuff we’ve got going on so I am buzzing to get going.”
Boss Spicer said: “Physically he’s fantastic, he’s in great shape, has a great ability on the ball and is rapid.
“I know a few clubs higher up are already looking at the lad, so I want to do my best to improve him and give him that platform to continue his development.”
Redditch will enter the FA Cup at the first qualifying round stage on Tuesday, September 22, just four days after the club’s first scheduled league game on Saturday, September 19.
The early draws for the extra preliminary and preliminary rounds will be released on Tuesday. There will be no replays in this season’s competition to ease fixture congestion.
The Reds’ £99 season ticket offer ahead of the new campaign has been extended again after bumper sales during the recent open weekend.
