New name to be etched on Schools Cup

Redditch Editorial 16th Oct, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

THIS year’s Redditch United Schools Cup final will take place at the Valley Stadium on Monday (6.30pm) and by full time there will be a new winner of the competition.

The final will be contested by two schools who have not yet appeared in any of the previous four finals – Ipsley and Woodfield middle schools – so come along and take advantage of free admission to see some of the stars of the future.

In the semi-finals Woodfield beat Woodrush 4-2, whilst Ipsley went through on penalties after a closely fought game against Ridgeway.

The Schools Cup was first organised in 2010 by TRUST (the Redditch United Supporters Club) in liaison with the club and Redditch Sports Partnership. It was intended to further strengthen the club’s ever-growing links with the community, which chairman and vice-chairman Chris and Sallie Swan have driven on since taking over.

Year eight teams from the middle schools in Redditch play each other in two leagues, with semi-finals to decide who goes through to the final at the Valley Stadium.

The finalists will have use of the first team changing rooms and qualified referees and afterwards there will be a presentation of the cup and winners/runners-up medals, plus a man of the match award.

Chairman Chris Swan will present the cup and medals and Reds manager Liam McDonald will decide the man of the match.

The bar will be open, with hot and cold refreshments on sale, so please come down and watch what organisers hope will be another exciting final.
