Queenfishers are seeking new faces

Redditch Editorial 23rd Feb, 2017   0

REDDITCH Queenfishers are looking to welcome new players to their enthusiastic team.

The touch rugby squad, who train at Redditch Cricket, Hockey & Rugby Club on Bromsgrove Road, are on a mission to recruit new members before competitive games resume on Sunday, March 5.

The season consists of occasional Sunday tournaments played throughout the year, with the ranked positions from each fixture equating to points for the overall league.

Touch rugby is a minimal contact sport which eliminates the elements of tackling, scrummaging and kicking, but emphasises running, agility and ball-handling skills.

The Queenfishers are hoping for another successful season after just missing out on the top spot in the Midland Ladies Touch League North East Division last season.

They believe the continuance of training from dedicated coach Garry Mills and an influx of new players may just be the recipe to claim the winners position this year.

Player Amy Flynn said: “The ladies train twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7pm and new players are welcome to come along to either of these sessions to be greeted by a friendly, devoted group of women.

“Touch rugby is an excellent way to keep fit, increase socialising and make new friends.

“The Queenfishers are holding a pitch up and play session on Monday, February 27 which is focused on giving participants a taster of what touch rugby has to offer.

“There will also be an opportunity to do some proper tackling for anybody who feels confident enough and wants to learn the contact game.”
