Queenfishers savour a memorable season

Redditch Editorial 9th Dec, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

THE 2015 season has been an excellent campaign for the Redditch Ladies touch rugby team, who celebrated their efforts at their end of season awards night on Saturday.

The Queenfishers finished third in the South West tier of the Midlands Ladies’ Touch League as they scored almost 90 tries – a huge improvement on their sixth place in 2014.

This year the league also held Super Sundays – in which all teams in both the North East and South West tiers met for tournaments – and the Queenfishers finished fourth overall across the entire league.

Their captain Olivia Jones said: “Both of these results show how well the Queenfishers are developing as a team with year on year progress under the guidance of coach Garry Mills.

“Highlights of the season include the mixed O2 tournaments we played at Twickenham where we reached the quarter-finals and met England’s Danny Care and at Loughborough where we got to meet the legendary Jonny Wilkinson, whilst we also enjoyed the Rugby World Cup Fanzone in Birmingham.”
