STUDLEY were left frustrated as they had to settle for just eight points from an abandoned fixture at Kings Heath when they looked well placed to record their first win of the Warwickshire League Premier Division season.

Luke Deeprose bowled superbly to take 5-32 off 12 overs and Andy Rhodes also chipped in with a couple of wickets as the Birmingham side were restricted to 171-9 off their 50 overs.

Studley’s run chase was going to plan as they reached 65-1 off 16.1 overs in reply with winter recruit from Redditch Luke Davis unbeaten on 41, but then the heavens opened and play was abandoned.

Steve Rose’s side, who have seen two of their three matches abandoned, host Bablake Old Boys on Saturday as both sides chase their first victory.

STUDLEY 2nds produced a fine display to defeat visitors Olton & West Warwicks 3rds in Division Eight West.

The hosts bowled very well as Greg Moore’s ten overs went for just 17 and youngsters Owain Erskine (3-30) and Callum Amos (2-28) turned the screw.

Captain Chris Moss finished with figures of 3-28 from his allotted ten as the visitors were restricted to 120-9 off their 45 overs.

Studley lost the early wicket of Chris Regan before Jon Erskine and Charlie Bass steadied the ship. Erskine departed for 16 before Studley, with the score 50-2, were halted by the rain and lost 11 of their overs, leaving them with 17 overs to score 71 runs for victory.

A superb partnership by Moss and Bass put Studley in a winning position before Bass eventually fell for 34, but Studley knocked the remaining runs off in the 28th over with six overs to spare as Moss finished unbeaten on 45.

Skipper Moss said: “This was a superb all-round performance. Our fielding was excellent and we bowled with aggression and control.

“The younger members of the side are really stepping up now and this is great to see. Owain and Callum bowled with great control and are progressing well. I also thought Greg Moore bowled very well and was unlucky not to take a wicket.

“Charlie Bass played superbly. He batted for the sittuation and looked a mature player. He is only 16 and this knock showed the bags of potential he has to score thousands of runs for Studley.”

Studley 2nds visit Willclare on Saturday.
