Rain hampers Sunday League programme

WET WEATHER caused the postponement of numerous Redditch & South Warwickshire Combination matches on Sunday, but there was some action.

Shakespeare Studley moved their match against SCC Redolence to a different pitch but they remain on the lookout for their first point of the season after the visitors secured a 4-2 victory.

Jordan Price, Paul Jeynes, Tim Lees and Stuart Tomlinson scored for SCC and Shane Kelleher and Kyle Tapsell netted for Shakespeare.

Manager Chris Adams scored both goals for Redditch Town in their 2-1 home win over VKL United, for whom Sam Osmond was again on the scoresheet.

In the Pat Sanders Cup, third placed Golden Cross defeated leaders CBH Fasteners 5-4 on penalties after a thrilling 4-4 draw.

CBH took an early lead before Golden Cross took a 2-1 advantage.

Late in the first half CBH equalised and they had the better of the second half, taking a 3-2 lead through Sean Parish’s header.

Golden Cross managed to dig deep to turn it around as Mark Wilkes completed a hat-trick to put them 4-3 up, only for CBH to score at the death.

However, Rhys Whitehouse, who also scored in normal time, scored the final penalty to secure Golden Cross’ progress.

Gary Walker, Callum Davies and Nick Gregson were also on the mark for CBH.

On Saturday VKL United will hold their third annual charity game at Redditch United’s Valley Stadium in remembrance of Vinay Kishor Ladwa, who sadly passed away in 2013. The match against Shakespeare Studley will kick off at 6.30pm.
