REDDITCH 2nds continued their excellent start to the T3 South West 1 season under the leadership of new captain Ben Haresign with a 5-2 home win against Hampton-in-Arden 3rds.

The Kingfishers have six points from two matches and have scored 12 goals in the process after strikes from Jon Manison (2), Richard Sellors (2) and Dan Waite did the damage on Saturday.

Redditch were solid throughout the game as their new team structure continues to pay dividends and special mention goes to Harrison Young who has so far proved to be a great addition to the team this season.

Redditch 4ths were beaten 8-0 by visitors Kingswinford 2nds in T3 South West 4.

Despite the scoreline in the team’s first match of the season, there were positives to take including the stout defensive work against numerous short corners.

There were two newcomers to the Redditch side in the shape of Harry Jones-O’Neill playing his first senior game for the club and returning veteran Rob Leigh.

Redditch men’s first team remain unbeaten in T1 Midlands Three after a 1-1 draw at Rugby & East Warwickshire 2nds, but the 3rds were beaten 6-3 at Bridgnorth 4ths in T3 South West 2.

Redditch Badgers were beaten 11-1 and the ladies’ first team saw their fixture postponed, but Redditch Ladies 2nds were in action as they made the long trip to Tenbury 2nds for the final time before a big league shake-up next year.

Tensions were high throughout the Worcestershire League Division Three match, resulting in a high number of free hits and two green cards.

When the game was allowed to flow freely, Redditch kept good possession, utilising the speed and stamina of the midfielders to get the ball up the pitch.

Redditch broke the deadlock with a goal in the second half from a short corner converted by defender Holly Hancocks.

Tenbury equalised after a strong counter-attack and a 1-1 draw was a fair result between two evenly-matched sides who are sure to provide excellent entertainment in the return fixture.
