Redditch Development side savour title triumph

Liam Moakes 13th Apr, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016

THERE was glory for Redditch RFC’s Development side as they were crowned Herefordshire & Worcestershire Merit League Division Three champions.

The development squad, which acts as a feeder side to the Redditch first team, capped an impressive campaign by claiming their first Merit League title in more than five years in a season which included victories over local rivals Alcester and Woodrush.

Captain Jason Furness said: “It’s been an amazing season for the club with the development side not only winning our league but also bringing through more than a dozen young players to make their senior rugby debuts.

“To top a division containing sides from Kidderminster and Dudley Kingswinford is no easy task and shows the club has a bright future.”

The club, based on Bromsgrove Road, is always looking to add new players of all ages and experience and, with two senior sides, an over 35s side, ladies’ team and a thriving junior section, everybody is welcome to come and give it a go.”
