Redditch Entaco keen to maintain momentum

Redditch Editorial 12th May, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

REDDITCH Entaco are looking forward to the weekend’s fixtures in confident mood following Saturday’s performances which saw two matches abandoned, a home win for the 1st XI and a losing draw for the 3rds.

Skipper Greg Chinn inspired the 1sts to a crushing 135-run victory against visitors Enville which leaves the Kingfishers with the maximum 72 points from three games in Worcestershire League Division Two.

Put into bat, the Kingfishers soon took control as openers Chinn and Jack Roberson put on 172 for the first wicket.

Chinn struck a magnificent 116 off just 88 balls and Roberson made 69 as Redditch declared on 299-5 off 48 overs.

In reply Enville were soon in trouble and, despite a rain delay, they crumbled to 164 all out as only opener Andy Webster (68) offered any resistance.

Noman Choudry continued his fine form with the ball as he took 3-40, whilst Waqas Ali and Tom Field chipped in with two wickets apiece.

On Saturday Redditch make the short trip for what promises to be an exciting derby against Feckenham.

The 2nds continued their unbeaten start to the Division One 2nd XI season as rain dominated the day at Colwall.

Batting first, the Kingfishers posted an imposing 269-9 as Nick Fowkes led the way with an excellent 91 and in reply Colwall were 13-0 when the rain came.

On Saturday leaders Worcester Nomads are the visitors to Bromsgrove Road. Redditch will be without Matt Greenway for several weeks through injury.

The 3rds travelled to Old Hill and came away with a losing draw in Division Five.

The Kingfishers posted 209-7 off their 50 overs as Liam Clarke led the way with 59 and all-rounders Tom Hemming (31no) and skipper Ben Hicklin (28no) continued their good form with the bat.

In a rain-interrupted game Old Hill finished on 169-8 off 38 overs as Raghavendra Raj took 3-28. Hicklin chipped in with 2-45 and took three catches and made a run out, but Old Hill did enough to take the winning draw.

The 4ths’ Division Five 2nd XI match at home to Old Hill was abandoned with the Kingfishers in control.

Batting first, teenagers Olly Mason (56) and Faizan Ahmed (50) led the way as the Kingfishers finished on 162-9. In reply Old Hill struggled against accurate bowling from Mohammad Zahid (2-10) and Rob Pegg (1-15) and finished on 32-3.

West Malvern are the opponents for both the 3rds and 4ths – away and home respectively – this weekend.
