Reds Reserves reach cup final

Redditch Editorial 23rd Apr, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

REDDITCH United Reserves booked their place in the final of the Smedley Crooke Memorial Cup with a 3-1 semi-final victory over Fairfield Villa in front of a crowd of 155 at the Valley Stadium.

The Reserves, who play in Midland Football League Division Three and take the name Redditch Borough, had played every previous round away from home, scoring 14 goals in the process and conceding just one.

Matt Fearon opened the scoring for the Reds in the 54th minute with a superbly taken free kick and then shortly afterwards Liam Fullerton – the Reserves top goalscorer who is on target to win the Midland Football League Division Three Golden Boot – struck his 36th goal of the season to put the Reds 2-0 up.

Fairfield hit back with a well worked goal from Jamie Hatfield but the Reds were too strong and Dior Angus sealed victory for the hosts in the 76th minute with a low drive into the bottom corner after a well worked move between Fearon and James Pyatt.

The Reds will face Highgate United in the final at Bromsgrove Sporting on May 9 (3pm).
