Reds seek morale-boosting win

REDDITCH United will target only a second Southern League Premier Division victory in 14 attempts when they visit relegation-threatened Cirencester Town on Saturday.

Darren Byfield’s side remained 15th in the Southern League Premier Division after going down 2-1 at home to promotion-chasing Hitchin Town on Saturday despite a brilliant goal from Dior Angus.

In truth it was a deserved victory for the visitors, who took the lead on 40 minutes when Brett Donnelly headed home Jonny McNamara’s cross at the far post only moments after United keeper Brad Catlow had made an impressive save to keep out Dan Webb’s header.

Catlow also made smart saves to deny both Robbie Burns and Kane Smith in a first half dominated by the Canaries.

However, the Reds finally got into the game in the second period and, shortly after Luke Keen had gone close, Angus levelled in superb style when he chipped the ball past a defender before firing into the far corner of the net.

Redditch then went within a whisker of taking the lead midway through the half when Angus directed Kaylum Mitchell’s cross inches wide.

Hitchin grabbed the decisive third goal in the 78th minute when Ben Walster’s free kick was not fully cleared and Webb converted at the back post.
