RUGBY UNION - Alcester nil Rugby St Andrews to stay top

ALCESTER RFC consolidated their position at the top of the Counties 2 Midlands West (South) table with a 31-0 bonus point win against Rugby St Andrews.

Harry Wylie scored Alcester’s first try on 10 minutes before the visitors were twice held up over the line as Rugby struggled to cope with the away side’s constant pressure.

And Max Biltcliffe eventually crossed to extend Alcester’s lead to 10 points at the break after the visitors missed a penalty kick and a Rugby players was shown a yellow card for a high tackle.

Alcester struck early in the second half through Ollie Hopkins before Biltcliffe grabbed his second of the game and Mark Burrell raced over the line in a flurry of tries.




Despite Alcester having two players sent to the sin bin in the closing stages, the visitors were able to record their second successive clean sheet.

Alcester are next in action at home to Southam on Saturday, November 26 at Kings Coughton.


And Alcester’s 2nd team also enjoyed a successful afternoon with a 38-19 victory against Coventry Welsh 2nds.

Ollie Pittaway, Josh Ellis, Alec Aucott and Elliott Evans all crossed the whitewash whilst Glynn Smith grabbed a brace.

The scores were complemented by four conversions, one courtesy of Smith and three coming from the boot of Tommy Whale.
