Same again for Kingfishers in bid for first win

Redditch Editorial 14th May, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

REDDITCH Entaco will field an unchanged side on Saturday as they bid to secure their first victory of the Worcestershire League Division One season at home to Burghill & Tillington.

Luke Davis will lead his team into their fourth game of the campaign on the back of a losing draw at Bromyard last time out.

Having won the toss, the home side amassed 250-7 off their 50 overs as Dinusha Fernando and Ash Bullock led the way with 84 and 71 respectively. Waqas Ali (3-39) and Tom Field (3-62) were the chief wicket-takers.

In reply, the Kingfishers’ top order again started miserably, but there were strong performances from the middle order as Jack Roberson (35) and an excellent unbeaten 50 from hot prospect Ghulam Moyhuddin saw Redditch close on 175-8 off their 50 overs.

There was better news elsewhere for the club as wins were secured by the 2nds, 3rds and 4ths.

The 2nds got back to winning ways with a crushing 164-run victory against visitors Netherton in Division One 2nd XI.

Batting first, Redditch smashed 290-7 off their 50 overs with Liam Phelan leading the way with 73, whilst Matt Greenway chipped in with an excellent unbeaten 60 and all-rounder Sam Egan enhanced his growing reputation with 46.

In reply Netherton were no match for the Redditch attack as seamers Andy Elleray (3-35), Egan (2-31), Jordan Elder (2-37) and skipper Geoff Eley (3-11) did the damage to bowl Netherton out for just 126 in 31 overs.

On Saturday the 2nds visit Enville.

The 3rds and 4ths both managed morale-boosting victories against Stourbridge. The 3rds took the spoils by 26 as Tom Kitching (6-15) did the damage as Stourbridge were bowled out for just 48.

Another low-scoring game saw the Kingfishers come away with a five-wicket win in the 4ths. Stourbridge were bowled out for just 99 as Rob Pegg rolled back the years to take 5-31 from 14 overs.

In reply, Redditch wasted no time in scoring the runs, taking just 20 overs as Dean Ottley (38), Adam Sharp (15no) and a quickfire 16 from skipper Nev Mason saw Redditch Entaco home.

On Saturday the 3rds visit Stourport and the 4ths are at home to Stourport.

The Sunday 2nd XI got their league campaign underway against local rivals Bromsgrove and an entertaining day’s play saw Bromsgrove win by 68 runs.

Batting first, Bromsgrove amassed 241-6 off 40 overs as Matt Russell led the way with 121.

In reply Redditch lost wickets at regular intervals and could only muster 173-8 off their 40 overs, with Abdul Jabbar (43no) and Sam Egan (36) showing good form with the bat.

On Sunday the 2nds travel to Himley.
