ST BEDE’S Catholic Middle School’s year eight team have a spring in their step after convincingly winning the district basketball tournament.
After winning last year’s Junior NBA Midland Championships, the St Bede’s boys were always favourites to win this title and they did not disappoint.
They comfortably beat Ipsley, Walkwood and Aston Fields in the group stage to top the group and then defeated Ridgeway 47-8 to reach the final.
In the final against Birchensale, who St Bede’s have faced a considerable amount in the past few years, their class told as captain Regan Salisbury top scored with 11 points.
He was ably assisted by overall top scorer Cian Hodson, Hadeeq Malik, Jake Staunton, Matthew Barratt, Harry Bradley, Tyree Warburton, George Skelton, James Wynne and Gabriel Kubon.
St Bede’s assistant principal Matt Russell said: “In my 15 years of teaching at St Bede’s, this is definitely the best basketball team I think Redditch has ever seen.
“Last year’s achievement was amazing and the boys have continued to grow in the strong middle school structure this year.
“In truth, the entire squad have contributed valuable points during this campaign and I will be sorry to see them leave!”
