FOUR wickets from Andy Rhodes and a half century from Jack Williams helped Studley bag their first win of the Warwickshire League Premier Division campaign at home to Bablake Old Boys on Saturday.

Steve Rose’s Studley side never looked back after deciding to field as only Azhar Ali (50) offered serious resistance to the hosts’ bowling attack as Rhodes (4-15 off 12 overs) destroyed the top order.

Rhodes was well supported by Luke Deeprose (3-50) and Josh Gandy (2-35) as the Coventry outfit were dismissed for 132 in 41 overs.

In reply, Rose’s innings of 42 at the top of the order was an important one after the early dismissals of Luke Davis and Brandon Miller before Williams (59no) did the rest as Studley eased to 136-3 in the 45th over to secure 20 points.

Seventh placed Studley visit early leaders Bedworth on Saturday.

STUDLEY 2nds suffered their first defeat of the season at Willclare 1sts in Division Eight West.

The visitors lost the toss and were asked to bat on what seemed a wet wicket and wickets fell at regular intervals after a half century opening partnership between Erskine and Regan.

Captain Moss made 45 before he was run out and Studley were eventually dismissed for 158 in the 45th over.

Studley grabbed an early wicket when Amos sent the off stump flying but the hosts knuckled down and, despite three wickets for Erskine, Willclare reached 159-5 in the 40th over.

Studley captain Moss said: “I thought we were possibly 30 runs short and were slightly sloppy in the field.

“It is never easy batting on a wet wicket and this didn’t help, but I believe we are a good side and getting stronger each week, training hard, so we will bounce back from the defeat.”

Studley 2nds host Aston Unity 2nds at Washford Fields on Saturday.
