Swan brought back to reality

Redditch Editorial 11th Dec, 2018   0

AFTER beating the Swan Studley Skittles League leaders in their previous game, Swan were firm favourites to beat a Team BG side short on confidence after five straight losses.

Surprisingly, however, it was Team BG who came out on top to win only their second game of the season.

Team BG opened a good lead of 20 pins after leg two and made it four more when taking leg three. Although Swan then improved, they still lost leg four by a single pin and not until the last leg did they get a consolation point by winning that leg by 12 pins to take them off the bottom of the table.

Another consolation for Swan was debutant Roy Salmon making his side’s top score of 36 (12-stack). Other good scorers for Swan were Julie Tomlin with 34 and Andy Reynolds and Charlie Withers with 33 each.

Helping Team BG end a long miserable losing run were Jordan Cockette top-scoring with 37, while team-mates Maggie Reynolds and Stuart Stringer made 35 each and Gail Stringer 34.

There were no problems for Maudslay in making their highest team total of the season and, with games in hand, they still fancy themselves to finish the season top of the pile.

Against Well Developed, Maudslay lead by 19 pins after the first leg before Well Developed produced, in the next leg, their best leg score of the game to reduce the deficit by two pins.

That was as good as it got for Well Developed though as Maudslay took each of the remaining three legs very comfortably, with Dennis Compton finishing with 40 (12-stack), Dick Walters 37 and Stuart Griffiths 36.

Well Developed, after a promising start to the season, registered their lowest team score to date as they slipped to a fourth straight loss, with the best resistance coming from Martin Brennan with 34, Jim Child 32 and Janina Brennan and Ros Pottinger 31 each.

Results: Team BG 9 (305) Swan 2 (292); Maudslay 9 (347) Well Developed 2 (293).
