FOOTBALL fans enjoyed an excellent evening’s entertainment in the name of charity at Rubery Social Club last Friday.
A grand football forum featuring Brendon Batson OBE, Tony Morley and Kenny Burns saw the audience captivated as the trio told of their spells playing for West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa and Birmingham City in particular.
Burns and Morley, who between them enjoyed three European Cup triumphs, had plenty to say about the legendary Brian Clough and Batson gave some highly interesting insights into how the sport and Premier League in particular has become dominated by money.
With good banter between fans of the rival local clubs, the audience engaged in some excellent debate and asked some interesting questions, before the event ended with a raffle which included top football, cricket and rugby union prizes and the chance for fans to grab autographs and pose for pictures with the stars.
The event raised an impressive £340 for the local Acorns Children’s Hospice and a similar amount for Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice.
