Trophy number two for Black Horse

BLACK Horse made it two cups won out of two so far as they hunt a potential five-trophy haul in the Redditch & South Warwickshire Combination.

This time it was the WFA Premier Sunday Cup in which they took a quickfire 2-0 lead against Hare & Hounds.

However, it did not go all their way as the Bromsgrove League side pulled a goal back direct from a free kick just before half time and then in the second half Black Horse put through their own net as they failed to clear a ball into their six-yard box.

However, as Hare & Hounds looked the more likely to create the winner, a mazy and persistent run from Dale Edwards set up the winner with 15 minutes remaining and Black triumphed 3-2.

Millfield Rovers took charge in the hunt for the Division One title with a 5-1 victory at SHTP – a result which puts the Bromsgrove-based side three points clear at the top of the table with four games remaining.

In a tense first half SHTP had two chances to take the lead, before Kieron Waldron took advantage of some tentative defending to put Millfields ahead on the half hour mark and Millfields added a further two more to go in 3-0 up at half time.

Luke James gave the home team a glimmer of hope with 20 minutes to go, but further indecisive defending saw the visitors score twice more to put the outcome beyond doubt.

Third placed Rocklands lost ground on the top two after losing 2-0 at Alcester Town to two Matty Layton goals. This was a disappointing warm-up for Rocklands’ defence of the Jim Fleeman Cup, in which they were due to face SHTP in the final last night (Thursday).

At the bottom of the table it was a point each as Lodge Park RA drew 2-2 at home to Mayfly in a thriller. The hosts took the lead but the visitors then equalised and went ahead before a defensive misjudgement levelled the score.

Sunday sees top of the Premier Division action as Church Hill host Black Horse in an always eagerly anticipated clash at Studley Sports & Social Club.

Rubery Bridge head over to Kidderminster league side Darby End Athletic to contest a place in the Bromsgrove Charity Junior Cup final, whilst Abbeydale host Bartley Green Illey Sunday for a spot in the Kidderminster Hospital Minor Cup final.
