Unbeaten run reaches six games for Alvechurch

ALVECHURCH extended their unbeaten Midland Football League Premier Division run to six games with four points from two matches over the past week, although they were left frustrated at failing to see off ten-man Stourport Swifts on Tuesday.

Lee Knight’s side fell behind to Ashley Parsons-Smith’s fifth minute strike at Walshes Meadow on Tuesday, but Dimitri Dunkley hauled the visitors level in the 47th minute.

The hosts were reduced to ten men seven minutes later but, despite a second half onslaught from Alvechurch on the home goal, Swifts clung on to claim a share of the spoils.

Three days earlier Alvechurch, now 12th in the table, defeated bogey side Causeway United 3-2 at Lye Meadow as they claimed their first win in the last seven attempts against the Halesowen-based team.

A dramatic first half saw the hosts take the lead through Connor Deards in the 18th minute, only for Jovan Blake-Walker to haul United level just two minutes later.

However, Alvechurch were in no mood to be denied and regained the lead in the 23rd minute when Daniel Williams found the net before extending their advantage five minutes later through Dunkley.

Causeway made a strong start to the second half and reduced their arrears through Joshua Thomas-March in the 47th minute but, in what was a big surprise given what had gone before, there were no further goals and Alvechurch held on to seal a rare victory over Causeway.

A trip to lowly Dunkirk awaits Alvechurch on Saturday, before another away match for Knight’s troops at Walsall Wood on Tuesday.
