United are left facing a battle

REDDITCH United have a chance to end their dismal run of form when they head to bottom placed Cinderford Town on Saturday.

United still have work to do to secure their Southern League Premier Division status after slipping to a 2-1 home defeat to fourth bottom Cambridge City on Saturday – a result which saw the visitors move within 13 points of Darren Byfield’s side with a game in hand.

Redditch, now without a win in nine including seven successive losses, took a 32nd-minute lead through Solihull Moors loanee Charlie Morris and were good value for their half time lead.

However, when City’s Salim Relizani was sent off for a challenge which injured Donnell Benjamin, the momentum changed as the hosts lost their shape and the visitors began to pin United back.

Ben Robinson grabbed a deserved but fortuitous leveller in the 78th minute when his cross found the back of the net and Goldy Capela then grabbed a dramatic 90th-minute winner.

This weekend’s trip to Gloucestershire is, however, a far more difficult proposition for Byfield’s side than it might have been a few weeks ago.

Cinderford have won three league matches in a row, scoring eight goals in the process including Tuesday’s 2-1 home win over title-chasing Slough Town.

REDDITCH United Ladies will be chasing another victory on Sunday in their pursuit of the West Midlands Regional Women’s League Division One South title.

Gary Barrell’s side, who have not played a league match since defeating Rubery 5-3 in late January, head to basement side Marston Green knowing nothing but victory will do having seen their lead at the top cut to one point by second placed Worcester United, who have two games in hand.

The Reds, who have a League Cup semi-final to look forward to, have three league matches remaining and know they will almost certainly need a maximum return from each if they are to pip Worcester to the crown.

Worcester face a testing encounter at third placed Droitwich on Sunday.
