Well Developed on a roll

Redditch Editorial 3rd Mar, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

WELL DEVELOPED won their fourth game on the bounce in the Swan Studley Skittles League as they saw off a Team BG side which had beaten the now table-topping Alcester Nomads the previous week.

Team BG, despite playing a man short, won the first two legs to open an 11-pin lead but that was the end of their resistance and they were unable to stop a rejuvenated Well Developed running out comfortable winners.

The victors’ top scorers were Dave Bevan 36 (12-stack) and 34 each from Martin Brennan and Shirley Searle, while their opponents’ best came from Rob Baker 35, Ray Cartwright 34 and Janet Mold 33.

Still smarting from that previous week’s loss to Team BG, Alcester Nomads took out their frustration on Lodge Farmers to gain maximum points with good scores from Mac Eaton 41 (12-stack), Annette Upright 37 and 35 each from Bob Browning and Alan Cummings.

Lodge Farmers, making their season’s lowest team total, had best performances from Glyn Morley 36, Alan Rumble 34 and Lynne Long 31.

In indifferent form recently are Engineers and it was Alley Cats’ turn to take advantage as they won a very close game by a single pin to end their four-game losing run.

Alley Cats were left an improbable 69 pins to win, but achieved it as last bowler Sam Billyard made a 10-stack to clinch the game. Billyard’s final total of 45 (15-stack) was his team’s season’s highest individual score. Also for Alley Cats, Tony O’Connor made 38 (13-stack) and Anne O’Connor 35.

Engineers had John Bool making 38, Brandon Kelso 36 and Dave Green and Andy Clewlow 34 each.

Jumbo Jet Set were 12 pins up after winning the first two legs, only for Swan to battle back to take the next two legs and reduce the deficit to just five pins.

Swan finally left their opponents 55 pins to win, which was comfortably made by Jumbos. Jumbos’ Mick Stanton scored 37, Ray Jones 35 and Dave Marriott 33.

For Swan, Bob Haycock top scored with 42 (two 12-stacks) and Charlie Withers and Graham Howells made 34 each.

Although they did win the first leg, there was little joy after that for Swingers, as they slipped to a sixth straight loss.

Paul Clifton made 34 (13-stack), Brenda Morris 34 and Judith Clews 31, while Chris & Gerry Show – still chasing a top four finish – had good scores from Craig Sears 37, Angela Guest 35 and 33 each from Richard Fisher and Trevor Passey.

Results: Team BG 3 points (277 pins – nine players) Well Developed 8 (297 – nine players and 316 – ten players); Lodge Farmers 1 (276) Alcester Nomads 10 (320); Alley Cats 7.5 (319) Engineers 3.5 (318); Swan 3 (306) Jumbo Jet Set 8 (314); Chris & Gerry Show 9 (309) Swingers 2 (276).
