HEADLESS CROSS U8s had their shooting boots on at the weekend to secure glory in the 2018 Central Warwickshire Winter Cup.
The squad, sponsored by Redditch firm Benchmarx Kitchens & Joinery, drew 1-1 against Hampton with Dion Woods the Cross scorer before a 3-0 victory over Arden Forest was secured thanks to goals from Robert Maxwell-Morris (2) and Elijah Hemming.
This meant a penalty shoot-out against Hampton was required to determine the overall victors on Sunday and Cross held their nerve to win 4-3 on spot-kicks.
Keeper Charlie Foulger saved two penalties and also scored for Cross, for whom Hemming, Matthew Hughes and Maxwell-Morris also converted a penalty.
Also part of the team, managed by Jon Hughes, are Stanley Coyle, Kaylem Jussab and Ashar Robinson.
Annabel Roche, mom of Kaylem Jussab, said: “All parents, the coach and sponsors are super proud of all the boys.
“They didn’t get off to the best start, but have really pulled together as a team these past couple of months and it really has shown.”
