IT WAS another successful day for Bromsgrove & Redditch Athletic Club youngsters at the final fixture of the West Midlands Young Athletes’ Cross Country League at Perry Barr, Birmingham, on Sunday.

Medals were awarded to the top individual performers (with the best four performances out of the five races counting) and the best teams (over the five races) and top of the pile for B&R was Conor Smith who improved from second last year to win the individual under 17 men’s title.

Smith also won the final league race on Sunday.

Ellen Bowen continued her good form and was second in the overall under 15 girls’ competition and second in Sunday’s race.

Alice Battey and Anna Nicod were also individual medal winners as they finished fourth and sixth overall and fourth and eighth respectively in Sunday’s race.

The club’s under 15 girls’ team finished second overall having won four of the five fixtures and they only lost out on what would have been an inevitable championship title by falling one runner short of fielding a full team of five in the first fixture.

Other top 20 individual performances in Sunday’s races came from Natalie Hatfield (fourth in the under 13 girls’ race) and brothers Josh Robins (sixth in the under 13 boys’ race) and Finnan Robins (seventh in the under 11 boys’ race).

Tom Deykin (12th in the under 15 boys’ race) and Gareth Richardson (17th in the under 17 boys’ race) also starred.

B&R’s youngsters are now looking forward to competing in the English National Cross Country Championships at Castle Donington in Leicestershire.
