ALCESTER BC had another week where they won the majority of their home games but lost on their travels.

The week started well for the A team who secured an excellent home win against Woodlands Park B in Division Five of the S&W Birmingham Over 60s League.

Superb wins from Ken Craddock (21-40 and Margaret D’Elia (21-6) were backed up by Ken Harvey and John Slater, who both won 21-10, as well as Renny Bannister (21-20).

Alcester ran out winners by 41 shots to pick up nine points which moves them up to second place.

The B team travelled to Weoley Castle Mens Club but lost by 15 shots.

Although Tricia Barry (21-9) and Jean Craddock (21-16) had wins, the team lost overall and picked up just two points for their efforts.

Defeat for mid-table Alcester now makes look promotion very unlikely.

The A team picked up a rare win in Division Two of the Yardley Wood Superleague when they played Hockley Heath A.

Playing his first game of the season in this competition, Brian Lees ran riot with a 21-4 success, backed up by an excellent 21-7 win for Dave Hovell.

Also producing winning cards were Val McDermott (21-11), Carole Slater (21-12) and Jean Bannister (21-20).

This gave them a 27-shot victory as well as 15 points to the visitors 3.

However, Alcester remain at the foot of the table and with matches running out, relegation begins to loom large.

The disappointing season for Alcester in the Heart of England League (HoEL) continued as both teams suffered defeats once again.

In Division One, the A team were beaten by 19 shots by visitors Maggies A.

John Alderson (21-11), Brian Lees (21-13) and Dave Hovell (21-14) producing winning cards in the defeat.

Meanwhile, the B team suffered a ten-shot defeat away at fellow relegation strugglers Tanworth.

Jean Sherrington enjoyed a 21-6 victory while McDermott (21-11), Gill Evans (21-15) and D’Elia (21-17) also had wins.

Defeat for Alcester ensured they picked up just four points and remain winless in the competition, making relegation look almost inevitable.

In Division Two of the Over 60s section of the HoEL, Alcester A had a superb win at home to Kings Norton Ex Service.

All six players had wins, led by Ken Harvey (21-7) and Renny Bannister (21-8).

Also adding points were Jean Bannister (21-11), Craddock (21-14), John Alderson and McDermott (both 21-20).

This gave Alcester a 46-shot success overall, yielding 16 points to the visitors’ nil.

In Division Four the B team were beaten by 14 points at league leaders Hall Green A.

Although Alcester had only two winners in David Hodgson (21-9) and John Willis (21-12), they went down by only ten shots.

Defeat leaves Alcester comfortably in mid-table.

Meanwhile, the week ended with the club’s Knockout Handicap Doubles competition.

Just managing to avoid the rain, D’Elia and Bannister ran out winners over David Hodgson and David Whittington in the final.
