BROMSGROVE AND REDDITCH AC claimed two team silver medals at the Midland Cross Country Championships in Mansfield.

The under-15 boy’s team of William Pridden, Samuel Hembry, Willem Hembry and Nathan Sanders produced strong runs to take silver just seven points behind Birchfield Harriers who claimed gold.

And William ran an outstanding race to finish third in the bronze medal position with S Hembry eighth, W Hembry 26th and Nathan 47th.

The under-20 women’s team also won silver as Sophie Groom 12th and Lauren Sykes 17th excelled to come home in second place.

Elsewhere, the under-13 girl’s team of Kara Welborn 17th, Caitlin Pridden 30th, Winnie Padmore 39th and Claudia Barker 41st just missed out on team medals finishing in fourth place.

The athletes raced in tricky conditions at Berry Hill Park and were forced to brave the strong winds of Storm Malik.

And the other top-20 individual performances were achieved by Gabriel Wagstaff who came 11th in the under-13 boy’s race and Lauren Coates in the under-17 women’s race.

Also competing for the club were Lucy Stewart 62nd and Amelie Ranger 66th in the under-15 girl’s race, Esme Ranger 26th in the under-17 women’s race and Henry Gibbs 35th in the under-17 men’s race.

The club’s athletes are next in action in the final events of a series of local cross country leagues on the weekend of February 19 and 20.

If you would like to support your local club’s cross country runners the under-20 and senior athletes will be racing in Redditch at Ipsley Meadows on Saturday, February 19 with the women’s race starting proceedings at 1.30pm followed by the men’s race at 2.30pm.
