BROMSGROVE and Redditch Athletic Club claimed a bronze medal in the under-15 boys’ Midland Road Relay Championships this past weekend at Sutton Park.
The team of Sam Hembry, William Pridden and Willem Hembry completed the 3.88km road course in a time of 41 minutes and 15 seconds.
That was enough to secure the bronze medal in a tough field consisting of 43 teams from across the Midlands.
S Hembry placed sixth in the first leg with a time of 13mins 31secs before handing over to Pridden who stormed the trio into the lead with a blistering 13mins 28secs leg.
W Hembry finished strongly with a time of 14mins 16secs to clinch bronze behind Birchfield Harriers and Stroud who took gold and silver respectively.
Elsewhere, Kara Welborn produced the best individual performance of the day by placing fifth for the under-13 girl’s A team in a time of 15mins 24secs.
This was the eighth fastest of all legs ran on the day and she was supported by Caitlin Pridden and Winnie Padmore to finish in 11th overall.
Welborn has also been selected to represent the West Midlands in a mini-marathon held in conjunction with the London Marathon this Sunday.
The under-17 women’s team comprising of Lucy Hatfield, Josie Mawdsley and Lauren Coates also finished in 11th.
Whilst the under-15 girls finished 18th after strong legs from Hannah Dale and Philippa Taylor and an impressive run from Lucy Stewart who was running in her first relay.
Unfortunately, the under-13 boys had no third runner to complete the team despite Gabriel Wagstaff placing eighth in 14mins 31secs and Nathan Watkins making a fast start to the race.
The club are hoping for further success at the National Road Relays at Sutton Park next Saturday, October 9.
