THE Hart Crown Green Bowling Club made a bright start to the new season as their over 60’s A team secured home and away wins against Hockley Heath A in the SW Birmingham and District League.
And the A team completed a double over the Birmingham-based club with a 117-74 victory as debutant Steve Lediard beat George Donaldson 21-9 whilst Neil Laxton and captain Mike Estell won to single figures.
There were also wins for Kirk Wright (21-15) and Ray Barnett (21-17) as the team made the perfect start to the season.
Following their promotion last season, Hart’s A team won their opening match in Division One of the Yardley Wood Superleague with a 154-130 victory at Wythall A.
Recent addition Ashley Beeston (21-8) and Wright (21-6) put the Redditch club into a 28-shot lead before Phil Hemming, Mick Perrins and Laxton all won their matches to secure an impressive victory.
And Hart’s B team completed a double over their local rivals with a comfortable 162-100 home win.
Captain Neil Harrison (21-9) led by example and was supported by Malcolm Bird (21-8), Sheila Humphreys (21-14), Denis Turner (21-13), Jack Livingstone (21-14), Penny Moore (21-10) and Ged Dooner (21-11).
Lastly, in the Northfield and District Sunday League, Hart B began the season with a 143-125 win against Hockley Heath in Division Three.
Phil Hemming captained the side to victory as Livingstone (21-7), Roger Broome (21-12), Bird (21-12) and Perrins (21-10) all tasted success.
