STEVE Jones won The Hart’s Consolation Handicap Tournament to scoop the prize money on offer from a field of 13 bowlers.
Jones, who enjoyed a fine first season with the club, came through a close encounter with Tony Cox (21-18) to meet Mick Perrins in the semi-final after the latter beat Neil Harrison (21-16).
And Jones secured a comfortable 21-9 victory to advance to the final.
In the other semi-final, Rick Horton, who survived a late comeback from Jack Livingstone to prevail 21-17 in the previous round, met veteran Malcolm Bird who saw off Matt Talbot (21-16) in a back and forth contest.
Horton and Bird were separated by a single shot after the first 12 ends before the latter took control to win 21-16 despite a late rally from his opponent.
Jones gave 89-year-old Bird six shots in the final but made a blistering start to lead 10-7 after seven ends.
However, Bird defied his years to mount a comeback and lead 13-10 after the next five ends.
And Jones then tightened up his bowling to turn the match back in his favour and triumph 21-15 in an enthralling contest.
