THE HART Crown Green Bowling Club’s A team retained the Heart of England League Division One title with a whitewash victory.

The Redditch club thrashed already-relegated Wootton Hall A 168-87 to claim a second title win in succession.

The team of Cameron Cutler (captain), Oscar Fielding, Ashley Beeston, Carl Fielding, James Bracken, Dave Mahaffey, Pete Davenport and Tony Moore guided the club to the league title.

Hart won the league by 23 points ahead of Kings Norton Ex-Service while club bowler Davenport topped the division averages standings.

Elsewhere, Hart B made sure of their place in Division Three next season despite losing 152-107 against Ye Olde Knowle.

Kirk Wright (21-7) and Neil Harrison (21-19) proved the club’s only winners.

And the Hart also secured promotion to Division Three of the Warwickshire and Worcester League.

The Redditch club took five points from their final away match of the season at Queslett in a 162-159 defeat.

Davenport (21-5), Beeston (21-12), Moore (21-20) Cutler (21-13) and Oscar Fielding (21-7) all won their matches to secure a second-place finish in the league.

Hart’s A team still have an outside chance of avoiding relegation in the Northfield and District Sunday League following a surprise 140-121 win against Baldwin A.

Cutler, Dave Mahaffey, Jim Mahaffey and captain Mike Hancock all triumphed to keep the club’s survival hopes alive with two matches left to play.

In Division Three, Hart B maintained their promotion challenge with a 143-134 win at Romsley Hunnington B.

Winning cards from Martin Onions (21-9), Phil Hemming (21-19), Gill Croft (21-18) and Harrison (21-4) keeps the club in third place – just four points behind leaders Royal Oak.

In Division One of the South West Birmingham and District Over 60s League, Hart’s A team improved their survival hopes with victory against King George V A.

Winning cards from Steve Lediard (21-18), Jim Mahaffey (21-18), Wright (21-10) Harrison (21-18), and captain Graham Arnott (21-13) mean one more win should help the club avoid relegation.

Elsewhere, Hart B suffered an agonising 110-109 one-shot defeat at Wythall B with four winners from the six ties.

Hancock (21-19), Malcolm Bird (21-18), Croft (21-17) and Manny Kawycz (21-14) gained points for the visitors who need one victory from their final two matches to seal promotion to Division Four.

Hart finally lifted themselves of the bottom of the Yardley Wood Superleague Division One table with a 157-82 success against Baldwin which featured seven winning cards.

In the Heart of England Over 60s League Division One, Hart moved up to third place with a 118-105 home win against King George V A.

And in Division Three, Hart B also continued their resurgence with victory against former leaders Henley A.
