BOWLS - The Hart return to top after victory at Maggies

THE HART Crown Green Bowling Club sit top of the Heart of England League Division One table.

The Redditch club secured a 152-108 win at The Maggies to return to the top of the Division One standings.

Wins for Ashley Beeston  (21-15), Carl Fielding  (21-9) and captain Cameron Cutler (21-18) put the Hart in command.

And Tony Moore (21-6), Oscar Fielding (21-7) and Greg Smith (21-11) all triumphed to ensure the Hart returned to the top of the table.

Hart B secured a narrow 137-132 win against Baldwin B in Division Three.

The fixture saw the Hart’s 92-year-old bowler Malcolm Bird take on Baldwin’s nine-year-old junior player Lincoln Whitcombe – an age gap of 83 years.

Bird claimed a 21-16 success while Neil Laxton (21-15) and Mick Perrins (21-17) also gained points for the home team while Gill Croft celebrated a walkover win.




The Hart’s Warwick and Worcester Premier League team eased to a 204-122 win against The Beeches in Division Four.

The Redditch club had eight winners as Pete Davenport (21-9), Cutler (21-4), O Fielding (21-8), Dave Mahaffey (21-4) and T Moore (21-4) all won to single figures.


And further wins for Penny Moore (21-17), Kirk Wright (21-11) and Paul Matthews (21-17) helped the Hart to a comprehensive victory.

T Moore, Mahaffey and Cutler also sit first, second and third respectively in the division averages.

Hart A claimed a hard-fought 147-132 home win against Hall Green in Division One of the Northfield and District League.

And Hart B suffered a narrow 136-132 defeat away at Division Three leaders Royal Oak despite a 21-4 win for Martin Onions who remains top of the Division Three averages.

In Division One of the South West Birmingham and District Over 60s League, Hart lost 113-77 at Kings Norton Ex-Service.

Only Wright (21-17) and Steve Lediard (21-12) produced winning cards for Hart.

Hart B also lost 106-102 against Kings Norton’s B team at home in Division Five with Neil Harrison (21-16) and Perrins (21-6) Hart’s only winners.

In the Yardley Wood Superleague Division Three, Hart B cruised to a 152-78 win against Rubery Sheldon B to remain in second place.

Denis Turner, Harrison, Louise Laxton and Croft all won to single figures for Hart.

And in Division One of the Heart of England Over 60s League, Hart A produced a full house of winners in a 126-90 home win against Stoke Prior.

Hart B also gained three points from a 110-85 defeat against Tanworth.
