BOWLS - White Hart move top of the table after Kings Norton win

WHITE Hart Crown Green Bowling Club’s A team sit top of the Northfield and District Sunday League Division Two table after a win against Kings Norton.

White Hart lead the table in the early stages of the season after a comprehensive home win over Kings Norton Ex-Services with all eight of their bowlers victorious to secure the maximum 10 points from the match.

Kirk Wright (21-14), Norman Batchelor (21-10), Mike Estell (21-18) and Mike Hancock (21-10) all won in the first half before Paul Matthews (21-8), Mick Perrins (21-16), Neil Laxton (21-10) and captain Graham Arnott (21-15) posted winning cards in the second session.

Elsewhere, White Hart B were narrowly beaten at Bournville Sports in Division Three as the Redditch club suffered an agonising 136-128 defeat.

Despite wins for Neil Harrison (21-14), Phil Hemming (21-11) and Malcolm Bird (21-0) handing Hart a 20-shot lead at halfway, Bournville came roaring back in the second session with Roger Broome (21-19) Hart’s only winner.

White Hart’s A team were eight shots short of claiming a surprise away win at Black Horse A in the S.W.Birmingham and District Over 60’s League Division One.

Estell (21-11) and Batchelor (21-5) were Hart’s only winners in a spirited performance before the two clubs’ B teams met in Division Three which ended in a trilling 112-all draw.

Gill Croft (21-16) and Rick Horton (21-15) produced winning cards in the first half with Tony Buckley (21-20) and captain Hancock (21-19) claiming narrow wins later on to take six points from the fixture.

However, White Hart’s A team struggled in their Yardley Wood Superleague Division Two clash with Bournville Sports A as they lost 150-109 on a bumpy green with Laxton (21-3) Hart’s only winner.

And White Hart’s B team failed to win a single card in their home tie with Black Horse as they slumped to a 168-97 defeat.

In the Warwick and Worcester Premier League, White Hart’s only winner from their Division Four match at Rowley Labour was Croft (21-19) as the hosts ran out easy 208-114 victors.

And in the same league, the Redditch club had to play a controversially rearranged home match with Moor Lane B the following day after the visitors had cancelled the original date for the match at short notice.

White Hart produced three winners Wright 21-7, Matthews 21-10 and John Meredith 21-20 but after two low-scoring cards early on they were always chasing the match which ended 184-158 to the away side.

And White Hart’s Heart of England Thursday A team maintained their unbeaten start to the season by completing their win against Stoke Prior A.

The final two ties from last week’s match had to be rearranged due to failing light with Ray Barnett (16-21) and Dave Kings (19-21) narrowly beaten but played well on a difficult green to accumulate enough shots and give Hart a 155-147 victory overall.

The Redditch club move up to 2nd place in the league, seven points behind Moseley A, but with a game in hand.
