BOWLS - White Hart set for thrilling finish to Superleague season

WHITE Hart Crown Green Bowling Club maintained their promotion challenge in the Yardley Wood and District Superleague Division 2.

Hart’s A team secured a comfortable 146-96 home win over Ye Olde Knowle with their opponents one of three other teams battling for second place over the final two matches of the season.

Winning cards from Neil Laxton (21-4), Gill Croft (21-2), David Mahaffey (21-3), Steve Jones (21-10) and Paul Matthews (21-14) means Hart are in joint third position with Warstock and just two points behind Kings Norton Ex-Service.

The Redditch club have to play bottom-placed Wootton Hall, home and away, the results of which will determine whether they play in Division 1 next season.




White Hart B had three winners at Alcester B in Division 4 as Denis Turner (21-12), Neil Harrison (21-4) and captain Tony Buckley (21-18) all posted winning cards in a 139-125 defeat.

In the Heart of England League Division 2, White Hart A kept up their title challenge with a narrow 143- 136 home win over Alcester A.


Victories for Pete Davenport (21-7), Laxton (21-19), Jones (21-14) Cameron Cutler (21-14) and captain Kirk Wright (21-19) gave them 15 points from the match and keeps them in second place, six points behind Moseley with a game in hand.

In Division 3, White Hart B suffered a heavy 168-53 at College Arms failing to win a single tie.

Elsewhere, in the Warwick and Worcester Premier League Division 4, White Hart only had two winning cards at Hamstead Social B (Ray Barnett 21-15 and Paul Matthews 21-20) in a 203-165 defeat as they remain in a relegation battle.

In the Heart of England Over 60’s League Division 1, White Hart A beat Kings Norton Ex-Service A 115-96 with wins for Graham Arnott 21-15, Norman Batchelor 21-11, Laxton 21-10 and captain Mike Estell 21-18.

However, Hart’s B team were soundly defeated 126-56 with captain Gill Croft achieving their highest individual score of 17.

In the S.W.Birmingham and District League Division 1, White Hart A overcame a poor start to beat Yardley Wood BC  112-100 with points gained by Batchelor (21-19), Arnott (21-15), Estell (21-6), Laxton (21-19) and Ian Humphreys (21-20).

Lastly, in the SWB Division 3, White Hart B were narrowly beaten 111-98 at Central Edgbaston with wins for both Mick Perrins (21-17) and Rick Horton (21-10).
