BOWLS - White Hart set to begin league campaign next week

Redditch Editorial 8th Apr, 2022   0

WHITE Hart Crown Green Bowling Club began their 2022 campaign by fielding 11 teams in five different leagues.

The club sadly saw the passing of both their secretary and treasurer as well as one of their finest bowlers of yesteryear.

However, Chairman Kirk Wright is optimistic about this coming season.

Wright said: “We have increased our membership which has reached 50 now, and added a few quality bowlers to our team line-ups.

“Our green is in excellent condition and many of our members have used the decent weather over the last fortnight to get in some valuable practice, which will hopefully stand them in good stead for the start of the league season.”

White Hart have ‘A’ teams in the top flight of two of the leagues again – The Heart of England Over 60’s and The S.W.Birmingham and District Over 60’s Leagues – (their ‘B’ teams are in Divisions 2 and 3 respectively).

In the Northfield and District Sunday league, Hart have their ‘A’ team in Division 2 and the ‘B’ team in Division 3 as is the same for the Heart of England Thursday leagues.

Elsewhere, in the Yardley Wood Wed Superleague White Hart ‘A’ are in Division 2 while White Hart ‘B’ are in Division 4.

For the Warwick and Worcs. Saturday Premier Legaue, White Hart are fielding one team in Division 4.

White Hart’s opening two games of the season were in the first round of the S.W.B over 60’s League Cup.

The club’s Division 1 ‘A’ team were up against Olton Tavern B from Division 7 at Solihull RBL while White Hart ‘B’ were drawn against King George V/Police B at Kings Norton Ex-Service.

And White Hart ‘A’ recorded the easiest victory of any first round Cup match in beating Olton Tavern ‘B’ 119 -56 on a very slow green.

Neil Laxton and Mick Perrins both won comfortably only dropping three shots between them while captain Kirk Wright won 21-7 and Mike Estell 21-12. Newcomer Neil Harrison recorded his first ‘A’ team win with a 21-13 card.

White Hart ‘B’ had two easy winners in their match against King George V/Police – Norman Batchelor won 21-3 and captain Mike Hancock 21-8 but four losses meant they exit the cup by a narrow 87-95 defeat.

The SWB and District League programme begins for both Hart teams next Tuesday, April 12.
