AMATEUR boxing coach Nigel Lakin celebrated success at the England Boxing Finals on Sunday.

Lakin, from Winyates, is a coach at Jewellery Quarter Boxing Club in Birmingham. He joined the club just three years ago and was over the moon at having achieved his first national title as a coach when Jewellery Quarter boxer Delicious Iwuchukwu became super heavyweight champion of England.

Club performance director Mick Maguire said: “Nigel is a vital part of our coaching team and has worked tremendously hard to achieve the highest accolade in coaching a national champion.

“Nigel and Delicious have travelled the length and breadth of the country to win this championship and triumph as Midlands champion, whilst also defeating the Yorkshire, Merseyside, Tyne Tees and finally the southern area champion along the way.

“Nigel is already back in the gym as normal and back to working with our tremendously successful squad of boxers.

“Nigel also runs a fitness boxing class on Tuesday evenings at Unlimited Fitness in Redditch and is tirelessly working to develop young people and offer as many opportunities as he can to allow these youngsters to achieve their potential.

“We call him ‘Redditch’s Mr Boxing’ in our gym and, now he has achieved national honours, he has lived up to his nickname.”
