REDDITCH-born boxer Leo ‘The Lionheart’ Fanthome will make his professional boxing debut this weekend.

The 25-year-old welterweight is fighting on the ‘March Madness’ card on Saturday, March 2 at the Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport on Coventry Road.

Fanthome originally boxed for Redditch Boxing Academy as an amateur and, after 30 bouts, decided to make the transition from the amateur to the professional ranks.

Fanthome said: “I have had good success in the amateurs winning a Midlands title, getting to the quarter-finals of the ABA’s and boxing abroad twice.

“I feel now, with the experience I’ve gained under my new coach Anton Hull of D and A Boxing School of Excellence, I am more than ready for my professional debut.

“I have been sparring very well with some very good experienced pros, training two to three times a day and living a very strict healthy lifestyle to enable peak performance.

“I will put on a great performance on March 2nd and I am extremely grateful for everyone that’s purchased tickets, I have sold over 150 tickets for my debut which isn’t bad considering this is my first fight.

“A big thank you to my sponsors: Matt Kelly Building Contractors, L and D scaffolding, RR-Groundworks, Matt and Ant Grab Hire, Paul Singh, Traditional Driveways, Arrow Metals, Redditch Plastering, Alcester Barbers, MMR Financial and Travis Perkins Redditch.

“Without them, it would be very difficult to afford all my training equipment, medical costs, license and nutrition.”
