WALLOP Boxing Club hosted a successful first home show at the Abbey Stadium and have plans to hold more events later this year.

Wallop fighters triumphed in seven of the 11 bouts on the card with nine fights contested between Wallop boxers.

And Wallop’s director and lead coach Carl Dickens insists the show is the first of many after packing out the Abbey Stadium.

Dickens said: “It went really well, it was packed, everything went to plan, I had loads of positive feedback from everybody, they couldn’t believe it was my first one.

“Everything was done locally, Swift Temps helped sponsor the show, Gaz Whitehouse was the DJ, Tim Piper was master of ceremonies and Richard Clarke was the photographer – all from Redditch.

“We have another show booked in for September and hopefully one in June as well, this was the first of many.”

Coaches Dave Langston, Daz Long and Dean Beach supported the fighters throughout with Long a lead coach at Wallop.

And top boxing coaches were in attendance on the night including GB coach Mick Maguire and legendary Birmingham boxing coach Frank O’Sullivan.

Redditch boxers Simon Ibekwe and Leo Fanthome presented awards to the fighters following their bouts.
