A BOXER from Redditch has won the prestigious Midlands Box Cup title in the under-60kg category.
Joe Langston, who fights for Wallop Boxing Club in Redditch, came away with the title at Hadley Stadium in Birmingham.
Langston is the second Wallop fighter to win the Midlands Box Cup title after Sami Khan triumphed in the under-54kg category last year.
Wallop’s lead coach and director, Carl Dickens said: “Joe boxed beautifully at times, listening to instructions and punching down the line.
“He met his aggressive opponent with a backhand to cruise to a unanimous win to become Midlands Box Cup champion.
“Thank you to the president of the Midlands division, Mo Abdullah , for putting on such an organised tournament with top lads boxing all around the country.
“Also thank you to the referee of the bout for letting both boxers go for it in what was a really entertaining bout.”
Langston, son of Wallop coach Dave, won by unanimous decision.
Another Wallop fighter, Liam Penton, also boxed at the tournament in Birmingham.
Penton suffered a cruel split decision semi-final defeat against the eventual champion in the under-57kg category.
Dickens added: “Liam could easily have gone all the way.
“He boxed his heart out and really gave it his all.
“He’s really turned a corner and we’re just as proud of him as we are Joe.”
