B&R athletes star at County Cross Country Championships

THERE was plenty for Bromsgrove & Redditch Athletic Club runners to smile about following some impressive results at Saturday’s Worcestershire Cross Country Championships at Newbold Revel near Rugby, where a pleasant day and relatively flat, dry and fast course greeted competitors.

Held in conjunction with the Warwickshire Cross Country Championships and with certain races combining different age groups, the event on this new course was keenly contested.

There was a healthy B&R turnout, particularly among the youngsters, and results were as follows:

U13 boys 3,000m – 2nd Nathan Sanders; U13 girls – 1st Lucy Hatfield; 3rd Amelie Ranger; 7th Lauren Coates (1st team); 10th Millie Titterton; 13th Megan Charles.




U15 boys 4,000m – 5th Luke Richardson; 8th Sebastian Purvis; 14th Owen Peachey (4th team); U15 girls – 1st Natalie Hatfield; 2nd Esme Ranger; 3rd Sophie Groom (1st team); 5th Lauren Sykes; 11th Emily Farr.

U17 men 5,000m – 7th Harrison Mayne; 8th Ty Adkins; 9th Joshua Keyte (2nd team); U17 women – 1st Beth Sykes; 4th Anna Nicod.


U20 men 6,000m – 4th Gareth Richardson; 5th Patrick Mackie.

Senior Women and masters – 6th Tamara Freeman; 11th Natasha Newton (Warwickshire); 36thM Jane Anderson; 37thM Dagmar Prinzing; 43rdM Chalotte Ball (3rd O60)’ 46thM Jenny Wale (Warwickshire).

Senior men and masters 10,000m – 20th Mark Appleton; 23rd Peter Ball; 13thM Andrew Freeman; 15thM Kevin Lanckham (3rd O50); 20thM Matt Henney (4th masters team); 24thM Ian Keyte; 31stM Paul Edmonds.

Redditch runner Joe Smith, of Tipton Harriers, finished second for Worcestershire.

The next meeting for B&R is the third Birmingham Cross Country League event at Burton Dassett Hills Country Park in Warwickshire.
