B&R athletes start cross country campaigns

BROMSGROVE & REDDITCH Athletic Club had a healthy representation at the opening Birmingham Cross Country League Division Two fixture at Lilleshall Hall National Sports Centre.

The course was one small lap and then three big laps, mostly on grass and wet in places over a distance of 5.5 miles.

Chris Perrin of Cannock & Staffs won the race and B&R were led home by Mark Appleton in 23rd place.

Other B&R results: 47th Gareth Richardson; 61st Kevin Fisher; 73rd James Hood; 84th Ashley Ross; 87th Andrew Freeman; 94th Dean Hartshorne; 108th Adam Parr; 112th Tom Richardson; 136th Stephen Brooks; 140th Rob Humphries; 150th Ian Keyte; 164th Kevin Lanckham; 169th Anthony Warner; 189th Matt Henney; 208th Phil Richardson; 218th Jamie Dancyger; 231st Ian Nutter; 246th Phil Anderson.




Some 288 runners completed the course and B&R finished eighth out of 17. The B team were fifth out of 13.

The Division One fixture took place at Pittville Park in Cheltenham on a six-mile course.


The race was won by Alex Brecker of the City of Stoke who led from start to finish. Redditch-based athlete Joe Smith finished 16th to help his team Tipton Harriers to fourth place as 310 runners completed the course.

The Midland Women’s Cross Country League Division One fixture took place at Coundon Park in Coventry on a 4.1-mile course featuring one small and two large laps.

Claire Martin of Telford was victorious and leading the B&R team home was third placed Sally Hogan who was also first placed senior lady.

Laura Kyte, who lives in Argentina but is back in her home town at the moment, finished fifth and then came Tamara Freeman (15th), Lucy Bristow (77th), Em Stevens (118th), Charlotte Ball (127th), Amy Ross (128th) and Holly Smith (131st) as 213 ladies finished the course.

The next meeting is on Saturday, December 2 at Clopton Park in Stratford for both the men and women.
