REDDITCH motorcyclist Mathew Dawes ended the Thundersport GB Championship in fine style as he won the final two races of the campaign to seal a second placed finish overall.
It was a fine way for Dawes to sign off for 2016 as he starred on TV Day at Cadwell Park.
Heading into the final round of the championship, Dawes was second in the standings but had only a 21-point advantage over the third placed rider with 100 still to play for.
The qualifying session went well for Dawes in heavy rain and he started race one from pole position, leading for four laps and eventually finishing second, although he lost points to his main rival despite beating his personal best by more than one second.
Dawes also started race two on pole but it did not go to plan as he suffered a slide and he had to regain his composure to finish third, although he again lost points to his rivals.
Overnight rain meant there was standing water on the track for race three but Dawes, who started from P3, lived up to his reputation as a strong rider in the wet and soon opened a healthy lead.
Dawes said: “I worked with my dad on the pit board and controlled the race from start to finish to take my first win on TV Day.”
P3 was also Dawes’ grid position for race four and once again he was in complete command to cross the line first and secure runners-up spot in the championship.
Dawes said: “I cannot thank everybody enough for the support in 2016. My friends and family have been great support and I would not be racing without my loyal sponsors, so roll on the 2017 season.
“I’d like to thank my sponsors Edison Technical Recruitment, CNC Routing LTD, Hosted Developments, Circuit Moto and Redditch Powder Coating and Shotblasting.”
