County cup glory for St Bede's girls

Liam Moakes 11th Jun, 2019 Updated: 13th Jun, 2019

ST BEDE’S Catholic Middle School’s year seven and eight girls became under 13 Worcestershire Schools’ County Cup champions thanks to a fine comeback in the final against Walkwood CE Middle School.

St Bede’s were excellent in the first half but were frustrated to reach the break goalless after hitting the post and bar and watching the Walkwood keeper make some fine saves.

Walkwood then took the lead early in the second half through a brilliant long range strike but an own goal five minutes from time drew St Bede’s level before the winner arrived with two minutes remaining.

THE SPORTING success did not end there for St Bede’s whose Key Stage 2 swimming team became district winners at Abbey Stadium pool.

A St Bede’s spokesman said: “All pupils swam brilliantly, winning the majority of their races. Pupils competed in freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly, backstroke and relays in winning points for the place they finished, which added up to a final team total which meant St Bede’s came away with first place.”
