TOM Le Lievre’s superb knock proved in vain as Studley Cricket Club suffered a nine-wicket defeat against Berkswell.
Studley’s overseas star produced a stunning innings in just his second appearance for the club as he scored 175 before succumbing to the bowling of Frankie Ingram.
That included 12 sixes to propel Studley to 279-7 all out supported by Stuart Harris (43 not out) and Daniel Taylor (34).
However, a formidable Berkswell side made light work of the replay and reached 280-1 in 45.1 overs as openers Hamza Khan Jr (110) and Ingram (131 not out) both scored centuries.
Studley were without a number of key players through injury and captain Tom Phelan took plenty of positives away from the fixtures despite the defeat.
Phelan said: “We felt we set a good score, but it just wasn’t enough. We had some key players missing, and we were a little short with the ball.
“However, there are loads of positives to take away from this match, particularly Tom’s outstanding innings. Hopefully, he continues his great form. He is well worth a watch, so I encourage everyone to come down to Studley support the team and watch him bat.”
Studley are next in action against Marston Green at Washford Fields on Saturday, May 18 with the game to begin as 12.30pm.
