MATCHBOROUGH First School Academy’s year four cricket team were victorious at the Worcestershire School Games with sixes and wickets galore.

The year four’s are the first sporting team from the school to win a county competition and were unbeaten throughout the entire tournament, winning every game.

And this was the year group’s second trophy after winning the district tournament earlier in the year.

The team comprised of: Cooper, Maddison, Rueben and Max (4S), Patryk, Travis, Archie, Jack, Aaryan (4R) and Macie J (4SC).

Matchborough were one of six local schools from the local district to compete at Bromsgrove School in the eight-over per innings tournament which took place on astroturf.

The mixed team of boys and girls, beat Fairfield First School and St Peters Droitwich C of E Academy in the group stages to qualify for the final.

And Matchvorough’s young stars overcame Lickhill Primary School (an all boys team) to deservedly lift the trophy.

Team coach, Tom Richardson, said: “I could not be prouder of the team and the standard of cricket they played.

“This was a real career highlight for myself and I’d like to thank the parents for all their support and Studley CC for offering additional coaching sessions, a true community effort.

“To win at county level is a huge achievement and the team were a credit to the school. We’d like to also thank Mr Palmer, Mr Gentle and Mrs Parker for all their support too.”
