REDDITCH CC suffered a narrow three-wicket defeat to Stourport-on-Severn CC in their opening Worcestershire County League Premier Division fixture.
Redditch recorded 258-6 from their 50 overs only for Stourport to reach the required total in 45.4 overs for the loss of seven wickets.
After being put into bat, Redditch openers Oliver Mason and Adeel Sajid put on 117 for the first wicket with the former scoring 55 from 51 balls and the latter 68 from 126 deliveries.
And Redditch finished their innings well with Nabeel Asghar 26 not out and Waqas Ali 25 not out before restricting Stourport to 28-2 at the start of the home side’s innings.
However, Stourport put on a 109-run partnership for the third wicket as Craig Wood’s 74 helped the hosts on their way to a three-wicket success.
Ali took (3-65) from his 8.4 overs with Mohammad Zahid (2-46), Sahil Mahmood (1-38) and Waqar Ahmed (1-35) also amongst the wickets.
Elsewhere, Redditch’s 2nd XI eased to a seven-wicket win against Martley CC after bowling their opponents out for 111.
Redditch reached the required total in 26.1 overs with Yassar Altaf finishing on 31 not out whilst Haleem Basharatt took impressive figures of (4-12) from nine overs at an economy of 1.33 with two maidens.
Redditch’s 1st XI are next in action at home to Astwood Bank CC on Saturday, April 23 with the game due to start at midday at Redditch Cricket, Hockey and Rugby Club.
