TANWORTH and Camp Hill’s unbeaten start to the Cotswold Hills League Premier Division season came to an end against Bretforton.
TACH slipped to a 70-run defeat at Station Road with the visitors bowled out for just 109 after Bretforton posted 179.
Despite the defeat, Tanworth remain top of the league table, eight points clear of closest challengers Wellesbourne.
Bretforton won the toss and elected to bat only for Oscar Newell (3-26) to claim the scalps of Daryl Mitchell (15), Christian Parry (0) and Nick Powell (9).
A 45-run partnership between Adrian Witts (21) and Adam Lawley (32) boosted Bretforton’s total before TACH captain Andy Turnbull (1-29) bowled Witts.
And Tom Smith (2-41) then trapped Paul Jones (5) LBW and accounted for the crucial wicket of Lawley.
Bretforton’s lower order chipped in with useful runs as South African Andley Adams (28) and Andrew Stanley (16) frustrated the TACH attack.
And James Icke (34) top scored before off-spin duo Jake Wright (1-29) and Tim Keyte (3-28) brought the innings to a close inside 38 overs with Bretforton all out for 179.
However, Tanworth’s reply started disastrously as Icke (5-34) accounted for Lee Gill (3), Martin Perfect (0) and Joel Ithier (0).
And Adams (2-29) then trapped Turnbull (8) LBW before Tom Smith hit his own wicket following a blow to the thumb from Icke.
Newell (44) found company at the crease from Jake Wright (16) only for Mitchell (3-17) to claim the scalp of Wright, Dan Williams (0) and Newell.
Keyte (10) and Nick Sale (10) took TACH past the 100-run mark before Icke returned to claim his fifth wicket and Adams wrapped up the innings with Tanworth all our for just 109.
Tanworth and Camp Hill are next in action against Leek Wootton on Saturday, June 7 with the game to begin at 12.30pm at the David Brazier Memorial Ground.
