FURI Sutairu Shotokan (FSK) Sensei Dave Treadwell and club secretary Kelly Edwards took another squad to the East of England Martial Arts Series in Norwich for what turned out to be a very successful qualifier for August’s 2020 European Championships in Germany.
Again the club came away with podium places in various categories as Laura Smith took sliver in kata and gold in kumite, Joshua Thorp took bronze in weapons kata, silver in kumite, silver in adult team kata, gold in creative adult team kata and gold in individual junior kata.
Ollie Scott won gold in kata, gold in points sparring, gold in continuous sparring, silver in team kata and bronze in weapons, whilst Tyler Hamilton took silver in points sparring.
Sensei Treadwell, who won silver in team kata, gold in team creative kata and gold in individual creative kata, said: “We are immensely proud of this small group who week in, week out put extra training in to get to the levels they are.
“For all of them Sunday’s competition meant they moved up a category due to age or belt ranking and in some cases took part in adult divisions alongside myself.
“What a way to finish the day with every one of them now cementing a place in the GB squad for 2020. This shows everyone if you follow your dreams you can make them reality with the correct hunger and determination.
“I’m really looking forward to not only coaching this group on the GB squad but also competing with them on the European stage.”
