Fab five share the honours at Borough's awards night

Redditch Editorial 21st Jun, 2017   0

ALL five first team gongs were dished out to different players as Redditch Borough celebrated their end of season awards in sun and style.

More than 500 players, coaches, parents and supporters congregated at the Mettis Sports & Social Club (MSS) in Batchley to recognise the efforts of all involved, from the senior side in Midland League Division Two through to the junior set-up.

Sought-after goalkeeper Ryan Young won the manager’s player of the season award, with captain Jamie Hatfield runner-up.

The club’s golden boot was handed to 23-goal Liam Fullerton, while players’ player was Billy Garvey.

Luke English, a target for Alvechurch, was named most improved player, whilst Hatfield’s partner in crime at the back Garrath Hodgetts won the player of the season accolade.

For the ladies, Natalie Monaghan won player of the season and Alex Motherwell came out on top in the players’ vote.

The supporters picked Phil Kindred and Helen Racki was most improved player.

Nicole Butler was the top goalscorer with 22 and the overall senior player of the season award went to Rhiannon Mosley.

First team boss Julian Workman said: “It was a wonderful day out with all sorts of fun and activities for all the family.

“A lot of hard work has taken place over the past season, particularly over the past few months to get us settled in at the MSS, so this day had far greater meaning than just the awards.

“It was a day for us all to celebrate together and enjoy the company of friends. It was a very successful event and I must thank everyone who brought it all together.

“Yet again, our army of volunteers ensured we all had a smashing day and we have a great buzz about the place going into next season.”

On the first team awards, Workman added: “I think it says a lot about the squad that six different players were recognised. I felt guilty in a way because it was so tough to single out anyone.

“That said, they all know how much I think of them. To be denied a second promotion in two years only by a points deduction and lift a cup is the real reward for all of them, I’m sure.”

Club awards: Golden glove – Max Court (U14s); Top goalscorer – Joshua Hull (71); Young player of the season – Riley Hawkins; Coach of the season – Lee Birch; Clubman of the season – Darren Motherwell.
