DYLAN Allen-Hadley’s goal earned Alvechurch an impressive point in a 1-1 draw away at promotion-chasing Leamington.

Allen-Hadley equalised for Church on the hour mark after Will Shorrock’s early goal put the Brakes ahead at the Your Co-Op Community Stadium.

The result means Alvechurch sit 17th in the Southern League Premier Central table, six points above the relegation zone.

Leamington made a fast start as Henry Landers saw an early effort blocked before firing a free-kick straight at Alvechurch goalkeeper Ronnie Hollingshead.

The home side broke the deadlock after just nine minutes when Shorrock scored his second goal in as many league games with a clinical finish into the top left corner from Adam Walker’s pass.

Church through they had drawn level soon after only for Jaanai Gordon to see his effort ruled out for offside.

Leamington remained on top as the half wore on with Hollingshead denying both Cally Stewart and Jack Edwards in quick succession.

And the Brakes went close to doubling their lead when Hollingshead made an excellent low save down to his right to keep out Ewan Williams’ shot before then denying Edwards from close range.

However, the visitors equalised on the hour mark as Allen-Hadley controlled Josh Dugmore’s cross from the right before hooking the ball home on the turn from 10-yards out.

Paul Holleran’s side searched for a winner as Hollingshead made an outstanding acrobatic save to tip Landers’ powerful effort over the crossbar.

And the home side went close soon after as Williams sent a header on to the roof of the net from Dan Meredith’s cross as Church held on to secure a precious point.

Alvechurch are next in action at home to Royston Town on Tuesday, January 30 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Lye Meadow.
